Below you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about staying at Cedar Break at Howard Ranch. If you have questions about hosting an event with us, check out our Events FAQ page  or visit our Contact Us page.

If a guest cancels up to 30 days before check-in, a full refund will be given, minus a $25 fee. After that, guests
can cancel up to 14 days before check-in and get a 50% refund, minus a $25 fee. Within 14 days of check-in,
there are no refunds. We’re a small business and cancellations really impact us, so we appreciate your
understanding. Our full cancellation policy may be found in our Policies page. 

Check-in at Cedar Break at Howard Ranch is at 4:00pm – 5:00pm CST. If you will be arriving after our staffed
check-in window, we will send arrival info to you via text and email. If an earlier check-in is needed please
contact us.

Check-out at Cedar Break at Howard Ranch is at 11:00am CST. To check out, return your key where you picked
it up. If you got your key via the Cabin’s lockbox, then please return it there. If you got your key from the
Ranger Station, then you can return the key to the Ranger Station Dropbox.

We use standard keys to access our rooms. It is very important that our guests keep track of their room keys
and to return the key to their lockbox or the Ranger Station dropbox prior to departing. We have a strict lost
key policy. Lost keys will result in a $75 fee charged to the credit card on file. 

Yes, we are a pet friendly establishment! Please book either Cabin G or Cabin B, for they’re our pet friendly
cabins. We have a few rules: 1) All pets must be on leash at all times while on property, 2) You must pick up
after your pet, and 3) Pets must be registered before arriving. There is a $35 pet fee and a $50 refundable pet
deposit, per reservation. More details on our Pet Fees may be found on our Policies page. 

Cedar Break at Howard Ranch is located in a rural area. We hope you have decided to unplug from technology
and enjoy nature. But yes, we do have wireless internet available in our Cabins, Airstreams, Old Bar N, Tobacco
Barn and common outdoor areas. 

From Austin: Head west on Highway 290 towards Dripping Springs for approximately 25 miles. Turn left at the
light onto Ranch Road 12 and travel for 1.7 miles. Turn left at the light onto FM 150. Cedar Break at Howard
Ranch will be on your right, the same entrance to Twisted X Brewery.

From San Antonio: Take US-281 north towards Blanco for 74 miles. Head east on TX-163 for 18 miles. Turn
right (east) on FM 165E and continue for 16 miles. Turn right (east) on Highway 290 and continue for 9 miles.
Turn right at the light onto Ranch Road 12 and continue for 1.7 miles. Turn left at the light onto FM 150. Cedar
Break at Howard Ranch will be on your right, the same entrance to Twisted X Brewery.

Yes, we have them. When you make your reservation online there is an option to choose a Pack ‘n Play. We
will then have it ready in your room. 

A short 3 – 10 minute drive and you’ll find eats from fine dining with a view, to hideaways with a local flair. A
full digital guide link with dining options will be provided to you via text and email before your stay. Here are a
few spots we recommend: Tillie’s Restaurant & Bar, and Trattoria Lisina are great fine dining options. Visit
Hays City Store for live music and good country cookin’ or Rolling in Thyme and Dough for a tasty sandwich or
salad. The nearby world-famous Salt Lick BBQ allows you to BYOB. 

The closest grocery store is H-E-B, only 2 miles away. You can even do curbside pick up or have your groceries
delivered. 

With its beautiful countryside views, Dripping Springs has been tagged as the Gateway to the Hill Country since
it is the first stop for many travelers leaving the city for the Hill Country. With a past centered in farming and
ranching, much of the land remains rich with rolling hills, spring-fed creeks, abundant wildlife, and majestic
views. From local swimming spots like Hamilton Pool Preserve, and Pedernales Falls State Park, to delightful
hiking and exploring at Reimers Ranch Park and Westcave Preserve.

The Dripping Springs area is also home to many events and festivals throughout the year, including Founders
Weekend Festival in the spring, Dripping Springs Fair and Rodeo in the summer, Dripping With Taste Wine &
Food Festival, Dripping Springs Songwriters Festival in the fall, and Christmas on Mercer Street the first
weekend in December. 

Dripping Springs (Drippin’ to the locals) has also become known for unique wineries, breweries and distilleries.

There are excellent wineries in the area. Nearby ones include the Duchman Family Winery, and Driftwood
Estate Winery. Others in the area are Bell Springs Winery.

Distilleries are abundant around Dripping Springs. They include Dripping Springs Vodka & Gin, Treaty Oak,
Deep Eddy Vodka, and Desert Door. These distillers offer tours and tastings at their nearby sites.

You’ll find some truly outstanding breweries within steps of Cedar Break at Howard Ranch. Twisted X Brewery
is located onsite, so be sure to visit while staying here. Others include Jester King Brewery, are just some of
the places you’ll want to stop for a fresh handcrafted cold one. 

Yes, you may bring in your own alcohol, or you can visit Twisted X Brewery, which is steps away. 

Yes they are, in designated fire pits. Fire Kits are $25 and include firewood, fire starter bricks and a lighter. We
do insist that you extinguish any campfires when you are done. Please observe posted information regarding
burn bans should they be in effect at the time of your visit.
